Separating meaningful structure from noise.
Complex datasets often contain relationships that appear persuasive but fail under closer examination. We investigate methods for discovering candidate patterns while testing whether those patterns remain informative beyond the observations in which they were found.
This direction includes feature construction, predictive modeling, statistical diagnostics, model comparison and disciplined evaluation. Its central question is not simply whether an algorithm can fit the available data, but whether an observed relationship is informative, reproducible and appropriately understood.
